Transportation trucks are high off the ground might carry loads that are unbalanced. When these trucks come to
a curved path, the load wont go straight on the same direction that the driver is forcing the truck to go.
If the force of the load exceeds the attempted force of the driver/truck, the load might shift and lead the truck to jackknife or rollover.
Even if the load is solid and secure, liquid and double skidded loads high up on the trailer will cause the truck to rollover on a curved road. Applying brakes hard on a curved road might also lead the truck to jackknife or rollover.
Also if your rear tires contact with soft ground or strike a solid object such as a curve while cornering might lead your truck-trailer to flip over.
Tanker Rollover
All the factors that would rollover a van truck-trailer will double chances of a tanker to rollover. The reason is obvious that the mass of the liquid will move one side whenever the truck turns or stops.
Avoid Rollover Accident
- Be aware of what you carrying and how it's loaded - If you know that your load is liquid, heavy, double skidded, or has more weight on one axle than the other then you must be extremely cautious, slow on ramps, and keep your distance.
- Be aware of the road condition - slow down when coming to ramp/curve and always keep your truck in controllable speed. Do not make quick maneuvering to miss an object, make a lane change, or make a turn. Keep eye on warning signs and slow downwind.
- Do your pre-trip well - Give special attention to tires/treads, suspensions, and brakes (do airbrake and trailer brake test).
